Crackdown on investor loans has worked

 

The recent crackdown on investment loans has seen a drop in investors entering the property market.

Investors are cooling on the Australian property market, with investment loans falling sharply as Treasurer Scott Morrison encourages a crackdown on loans to investors.

In January, investor loans passed 50 per cent of all loans for the first time since 2015. This peak pushed the banking regulator APRA to write to all banks stating it expected them to tighten lending practices on investor loans, and interest only loans.

The big four banks look to have listened to the latest warning from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority to tighten their loans to investors.
